Water Retention Pond's Function

I wrote previously about the Water Retention Pond in Fountain Hills Subdivision now I'd like to show you a picture of what it does.

Today we had a killer rain storm in the neighborhood and the Water Retention Pond went to work catching the entire neighborhood rain water and funneling it down to the retention pond. This is function of the drainage system and the pond to handle the rain and keep it from flooding area homes.

This is an example of why it is so important that there aren't yard clippings or anything else dumped in the pond, it actually does have a function and keeps the homes around the pond from flooding.

The reason they have dammed that area as opposed to just leaving it a creek is to avoid silt from all the new homes running into the pond and making it 2 feet deep. Keep in mind, as they continue to sell homes and create more and more concrete in the neighborhood the water will only run faster. The only way to stop this is to construct these retention ponds correctly and to rock them and build appropriate drainage systems. They have neglected to do this and have also failed to maintain the areas around the ponds. These are all issues that need to be addressed in a home owners meeting. If you were here from the beginning you would have noticed that the retention ponds didn't function correctly from day 1, it's a faulty design and quite frankly an effort by the developer to cut cost. It could/should be fixed.
